Overview
Ask who called, what was said, what a caller was told about fees, or what you promised a client last week. The assistant answers from the call records, summaries, notes, transcripts and contacts already in your LegalMate account. The connector returns a link to the call or contact in LegalMate with every result so you can check the source.
The connector is read-only. It can look things up in LegalMate but cannot create, change or delete anything in LegalMate or in Clio. Coaching scores, sentiment, urgency and practice-area analysis stay inside the LegalMate app.
It works with calls that reach LegalMate from your connected phone system (RingCentral, Dialpad, Zoom Phone or Quo). The connector is available today as a custom connector in Claude and ChatGPT, and through Microsoft Copilot Studio for Microsoft 365 firms. Native directory listings are in progress; when each one is approved you can switch over with one click.
Before you connect
You need a LegalMate account with a phone system connected, so there are calls to search, and an account with the assistant you want to use. Custom connectors are available on paid Claude and ChatGPT plans; check your plan’s current limits with that provider.
The connector is included with your LegalMate subscription. There is no separate charge.
Already on Clio? Sign in with Clio and your LegalMate account is created on the spot. We connect your firm’s phone system from there. Connecting RingCentral, Dialpad, Zoom Phone or Quo can be done in less than 2 minutes after your LegalMate account is verified.
READ THIS BEFORE YOU CONNECT
When you connect, the calls you ask about are sent to the AI assistant you chose. Call summaries, notes and transcripts leave LegalMate and are processed under your account with Anthropic, OpenAI or Microsoft, including their safety and abuse monitoring.
If your calls contain privileged or sensitive client information, review your provider’s data settings before connecting, prefer a business or enterprise plan, and consider whether client consent is needed. See Data handling and the Confidentiality FAQ.
Connect
Add LegalMate as a custom connector using this URL. Sign in with your LegalMate login, or choose Sign in with Clio if your firm is on Clio and does not have a LegalMate account yet.
CONNECTOR URL
https://app.legalmate.co/mcp
1
Open Claude, go to Customize, then Connectors.
2
Choose + Add, then Add custom connector, and paste the connector URL above.
3
Sign in with your LegalMate login or Sign in with Clio. Complete MFA if your firm uses it.
4
Approve the connection. In a new chat, check that LegalMate appears in the connectors menu and try a prompt from What you can ask.
On Claude Team and Enterprise, an organization owner adds it once under Organization settings, Connectors, Add, Custom, Web; members then enable it and sign in with their own LegalMate login. Connections last about 30 days. Reconnect by signing in and approving again. When LegalMate is listed in the Claude Connectors Directory you can connect from the directory and remove the custom connector.
What you can ask
The connector gives the assistant six read-only tools. You never call them yourself; the assistant picks the right one from your question.
Finds calls by phrase (including words spoken in the transcript), contact name, phone number, date range, direction, call type, or who handled the call. Up to 100 results per page, 10 by default; ask the assistant to continue for more. Results show a short summary; Call details has the full one.
Call details
One call’s date and time, direction, duration, contact, matter, handler, call type, matter status, and LegalMate’s full summary and notes.
Call transcript
The full transcript of a call, returned in sections for long calls. Ask the assistant to continue.
Finds contacts by name, phone number or email.
A contact’s details and their recent calls.
Your LegalMate account
Your name, firm, role and timezone, so the assistant knows whose calls it can see.
Dates like “yesterday” or “this week” use your own timezone as set in LegalMate. Prompts that work well start with a verb and name a person or a time window.
OWNERS AND MANAGING PARTNERS
Give me a summary of calls across the firm this week, by person.
Which existing clients called more than twice this week, and what about?
What did our intake team tell new callers about fees this week?
ATTORNEYS
Catch me up on my last two calls with Daniela Reyes before my 2pm.
What did I promise the client on yesterday’s call with Marcus Brandt?
Find the call where the holiday custody schedule came up.
INTAKE AND OFFICE MANAGERS
List this week’s inbound calls from new numbers and who handled each one.
Which callers asked about payment plans this month?
Who is (305) 555-0142 and who handled their calls this month?
PARALEGALS AND BILLING
Pull the transcript of Tuesday’s call with Laura Chen and list the dates mentioned.
List my calls with Grace Okafor last week and how long each one was.
Names and numbers are examples, not real contacts.
What it does not do yet
The connector does not match calls to matters, write notes or time entries to Clio, or pair with other tools on its own. Those are deliberate. Matter matching and Clio write-back live in the LegalMate platform, where there is an approval step and an audit trail. Asking the connector to log a call, add a note, create a task or change a matter will not work. If there is a connector you would like to use alongside LegalMate, tell us; we are collecting requests.
Data handling
What the connector reads
Call metadata (date and time, direction, duration, contact name, email and phone number, matter number and description, who handled the call, call type and matter status), the call summaries and notes LegalMate generated, call transcripts when you ask for one, and contact records.
Requests are scoped to your firm and your role. Team members see the calls they handled and the contacts tied to those calls or text threads. Firm owners and admins see the whole firm. Text message bodies are not returned.
What it does not do
It cannot create, change or delete anything in LegalMate or Clio. Every tool is read-only: your call, contact and Clio records are not modified. It does not return LegalMate’s AI analysis (coaching scores, sentiment, urgency or practice-area labels). LegalMate does not call a language model to answer connector requests; the reasoning happens in the assistant you connected.
Where the data goes
Results are sent to the assistant you connected (Anthropic’s Claude, OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot), under your own account with that provider. How that provider stores, monitors and uses conversation content is set by your agreement with them and your account settings.
What LegalMate stores
One record per connected assistant (its name and callback address). Access and refresh tokens stored as one-way SHA-256 hashes. Access tokens last one hour; refresh tokens rotate on every use; a connection lasts about 30 days from approval. One log line per tool call with the tool name and your user id, never the question or the results. LegalMate staff are notified when a new connection is approved.
Security
Sign-in uses OAuth 2.1 with PKCE, through your LegalMate login (or Clio sign-in) and MFA. Authorization codes are only ever sent to known assistant callbacks (claude.ai, chatgpt.com, Microsoft Copilot Studio) or to your own computer. The connector has one read-only permission scope; the assistant chooses which permitted tools to use.
For users who sign in with a LegalMate password, changing the password disconnects existing connections. Users who sign in with Clio or another single sign-on provider are disconnected by removing the connector, by LegalMate turning it off for the firm, or by deleting the user.
Call content comes from phone calls with third parties. The connector marks that content as information, not instructions, and the assistants are told to treat it that way.
Disconnecting
Disconnect the connector in Claude or ChatGPT to stop access through that connection. LegalMate can turn the connector off for your whole firm, which ends every connection immediately. Deleting a user from LegalMate deletes their connector tokens. To turn the connector off for your firm, contact us.

Troubleshooting
Connections last about 30 days. Reconnect from your assistant’s connectors settings by signing in and approving again.
If your firm is on Clio, choose Sign in with Clio when LegalMate asks you to log in and your account is created. Connect your phone system once the account is verified; until then there is nothing to search.
Check that the phone system is connected to LegalMate and the call appears in the app. The connector can only see what LegalMate has.
Team members see only the calls they handled. Firm-wide questions need an owner or admin account.
Only 10 (or 100) results
Searches come back a page at a time. Ask the assistant to continue, or narrow the date range, the handler or the phrase.
Long transcripts come in sections. Ask the assistant to continue.
Dates use your LegalMate timezone. Check it under your account settings.
By design. Reconnect from your assistant.
The connector is read-only. Make changes in LegalMate.
ChatGPT warns about an unverified app
Shown for every app added in developer mode until it is listed. LegalMate’s listing is in progress.
Support
Email support@legalmate.co with the assistant you are using, your firm name and what you asked. Please do not paste call transcripts into support emails.
