Why LegalMate?
Why phone-heavy firms add LegalMate alongside Fireflies.
Fireflies is a meeting assistant for sales, recruiting, product and every other team that meets. LegalMate is built for one kind of business, a law firm on Clio or Filevine, and for the calls and texts that move its matters.
Time entries are the whole point.
Nothing on Fireflies’ site describes writing a time entry or a billing narrative; its features are aimed at notes, search and follow-through. LegalMate drafts a described entry for each call from the transcript, in your firm’s billing style, and leaves it on the matter for the attorney to approve or edit before the bill goes out.
A transcript is not a matter record.
Fireflies can pull recorded calls from RingCentral, Zoom Phone or Quo into its own workspace as transcripts, summaries and action items, or log them against a Salesforce or HubSpot contact. A law firm needs something different from that same call: the client and the open matter identified, a note filed on that matter in Clio or Filevine, and the conversation reaching the invoice. That is the job LegalMate does on RingCentral, Dialpad, Zoom Phone or Quo.
Texts and email belong in the same file.
Fireflies captures conversations that have a voice, and client texts are not on its list. LegalMate files each day’s texts with a client on the matter as a billable thread, your email is searched and surfaced by the LegalMate agent, and the LegalMate MCP connector gives Claude, ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot read-only access to the firm’s calls.

Fireflies vs LegalMate
What’s the difference?
Fireflies is built for the meetings of every industry, from sales calls to hiring panels; LegalMate is built for a law firm’s calls, texts and matters. For personal injury, family, immigration and criminal defense firms with four or more attorneys, each call and text is written onto the right matter as a note, a time entry and a task through the LegalMate Clio integration and the LegalMate Filevine integration, on the phone system the firm already uses.

Side by side
One ordinary day, two records.
Four moments from a personal injury attorney’s working day, and what each tool has kept by the time the office closes.
An adjuster calls the desk line unannounced
Fireflies: if the firm runs RingCentral, Zoom Phone or Quo with call recording switched on and an admin has connected the dialer integration, the recording arrives in Fireflies as a transcript and a summary. LegalMate: the call is matched to the injured client and the open case in Clio or Filevine, where the summary, a described time entry and a follow-up task are already waiting.
Case strategy on Microsoft Teams
Fireflies: its notetaker joins from the Outlook calendar and leaves a transcript, a summary and action items that can become tasks in Asana or Trello. LegalMate: if the attorney has chosen to include internal meetings, the notetaker joins and the meeting lands in LegalMate with its transcript; with no client on the invite, it is flagged for someone to link to the case.
The client texts to say treatment has ended
Fireflies: text messages are not something its site says it captures, so this one stays in the phone app. LegalMate: the text joins that day’s thread on the case, ready to bill, and the agent can find it later when someone asks whether treatment is finished.
The billing review before leaving
Fireflies: the day’s transcripts and summaries are searchable in Fireflies, but writing the time entries is still the attorney’s job, since its site does not describe drafting them. LegalMate: each call and the text thread already sit on their matters as described draft entries, so the review is a matter of reading and approving.

Is Fireflies a replacement for LegalMate?
No, because they solve different problems. Fireflies is a general AI notetaker for any industry: it joins Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and Webex meetings, imports calls already recorded on dialers such as RingCentral, Zoom Phone and Quo, and sends notes to CRMs and project tools. LegalMate is built for law firms on Clio or Filevine: every call and text on RingCentral, Dialpad, Zoom Phone or Quo is matched to its matter and becomes a note, a task and a detailed time entry, and the Meeting Notetaker covers Zoom, Teams and Google Meet. Fireflies’ site does not describe a legal practice management integration, time entries or text messages.
Can I use Fireflies and LegalMate together?
Yes. A firm can keep Fireflies for internal and vendor meetings and run LegalMate on the phone system for client calls and texts. Plan for one overlap: if both notetakers join the same video meeting, you get two bots in the room and two records of it, so decide which tool covers client meetings. If Fireflies is also connected to your RingCentral, Zoom Phone or Quo account, those calls would be transcribed twice, and we can work out the split with you on the call.
Is Fireflies cheaper than LegalMate?
Fireflies is priced per seat across several plans, with integrations, video recording and admin controls unlocking on the higher tiers. For LegalMate the firm pays one clear price that includes everything, and the Meeting Notetaker, a paid add-on, comes with the 7-day free trial. The more useful comparison is what each one produces: a transcript in a notes app, or a billable entry on the matter. Show us a month of call volume on a demo and we will work through the figures for your firm.
Does Fireflies integrate with Clio?
Not that its site documents. Clio does not appear among the 100+ integrations Fireflies lists, which center on CRMs like Salesforce and HubSpot, project tools and video platforms, with Zapier and Make offered for anything outside that list. LegalMate’s Clio integration puts each call, text and meeting on the right Clio matter as a communication, a time entry and a task.
Does Fireflies work with Filevine?
Filevine is not listed among Fireflies’ integrations either. On the LegalMate side, the Filevine integration places each call, text and meeting on its project with a drafted time entry and follow-up.
Does Fireflies record phone calls?
Yes, from some phone systems. Fireflies has dialer integrations for Aircall, JustCall, Quo, RingCentral, Zoom Phone and sales dialers such as Outreach and Salesloft, and it fetches each call once the phone system has recorded it; its Zoom Phone guide notes that call recording has to be enabled and that very short calls are not transcribed. The result is a transcript and a summary in Fireflies. LegalMate works on RingCentral, Dialpad, Zoom Phone or Quo and goes further for a law firm: each call is matched to the client and matter and written up in Clio or Filevine.
Does Fireflies write time entries?
Not as documented. Fireflies writes summaries, action items and custom notes, and none of its pages describe time entries, billing narratives or timekeeping. LegalMate drafts a detailed entry from each call’s transcript in your firm’s billing style and places it on the matter in Clio or Filevine for review.
Is there a Fireflies alternative built for law firms?
LegalMate is built only for law firms of four or more attorneys on Clio or Filevine. It listens on RingCentral, Dialpad, Zoom Phone or Quo, joins Zoom, Teams and Google Meet meetings, files texts on the matter, and writes notes, tasks and time entries where the firm already bills.
Do attorneys have to change how they work?
No. After one connection to the phone system, calls and texts reach their matters without anyone opening an app, and the drafts wait in Clio or Filevine for approval. Each person decides whether the Meeting Notetaker joins their meetings.
What does LegalMate cost?
The firm pays one clear price that covers every feature, with no premium tier; the only paid add-on is the Meeting Notetaker, which the 7-day free trial includes. On a free call we quote for your timekeeper count and work out the unbilled calls per attorney.
Where does my call data go?
Fireflies says data is stored and processed in the United States on AWS and Google Cloud by default, holds SOC 2 Type II and GDPR certifications, and offers HIPAA support and private storage on its Enterprise plan. All LegalMate servers are US-based, and we support firms in the EU, Canada and Australia. LegalMate also runs a zero data retention policy: your call data is processed for your Clio or Filevine records, not kept.
Can I ask Claude or ChatGPT about my calls?
Yes. Through the LegalMate MCP connector, Claude, ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot can read the firm’s call and meeting summaries, notes and transcripts without changing anything, and each answer points to the call it came from. You need a LegalMate account to use it, and the connector works during the 7-day free trial too. Fireflies also offers an MCP server for Claude and ChatGPT, covering the meetings and calls it has recorded.
